Making Camp Accessible to All: Camp Barnabas

At Camp Barnabas, we believe everyone deserves a shot at the magic of summer camp. Whether it’s zipping down the line, crafting a masterpiece, or splashing around with friends, every camper should get to experience camp fun in a place that’s warm, welcoming, and fully supportive.

Here’s how we keep the proverbial campfire burning bright for everyone:

Activities for All

At Camp Barnabas, no one is left sitting on the sidelines. From arts and crafts to swimming, zip-lining, and canoeing, we adapt all our activities so no one misses out. We’ve got specialized gear, modified setups, and tons of creativity to make sure everyone gets to enjoy each activity their way.

Around-the-Clock Medical Care

We know many campers need ongoing medical care, and we’re ready. Our medical facility onsite is fully stocked, and we’ve got licensed nurses and volunteer doctors on call 24/7. From meds to emergencies, our team is there to keep campers safe, healthy and focused on the real task at hand: having a blast.

Accessible Campgrounds

Our camp is designed for everyone to get around comfortably. With wheelchair ramps, accessible bathrooms, and wide, paved paths, campers using wheelchairs or other mobility aids can easily explore every corner of Camp Barnabas. Even our cabins are set up for comfort and safety so everyone can rest easy after a fun-filled day.

Caring and Trained Staff

Our staff and volunteers don’t just know their stuff—they care. They’re trained to help with everything from mobility needs to sensory sensitivities, so campers get all the support they need to feel at home. When you’re with us, you’re in a safe, encouraging environment where everyone’s ready to lend a helping hand (or ear!).

One-on-One Buddies

Each camper has a buddy to make sure they’re getting the support they need, whether it’s a hand with their routine or a cheerleader for the big zip-line moment. Our volunteers are here to form real connections, making camp feel like a second home.

Sensory-Friendly Spaces

Camp can be full of new sights, sounds, and energy—great for some, a little overwhelming for others. We’ve set up sensory-friendly spaces for campers who might need a break from the hustle and bustle. These calm, quiet spots give campers a chance to relax and recharge.

At Camp Barnabas, accessibility isn’t just a feature—it’s at the core of what we do. From our adaptive activities to medical support and sensory-friendly spaces, we make sure everyone has a space here.
