Wondering what to do in Collin County? I think it is hilarious when I talk to people that are not familiar with Texas about different places to visit. Why people think that there are just horses and bulls walking down the street in Texas is beyond me!
However, there are some cool places to visit in this side of Dallas.
Here’s what to do in Collin County, Texas:
The Village at Allen
Check out The Village at Allen, Collin County’s center for shopping, eating, and attending local sports and live events at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center.
What’s even better is its location within a sprawling 1,027,413-square-foot mixed-use development that’s basically a playground for grown-ups and families alike. There’s Cabela’s for the outdoor enthusiasts, Topgolf for those who love a fun round of golf, and, of course, the Event Center itself, hosting over 100 events each year.
Catch a Game at The Event Center
Located in the Village, The Credit Union of Texas Event Center, once known as the Allen Event Center, is one of my go-to spots in Collin County when I’m looking for a good time. This 7,000+ seat arena packs in an impressive variety of events year-round—think concerts, sports, graduations, trade shows, and even family ice shows. It’s also the home turf for the Allen Americans Hockey Club and the Dallas Sidekicks Soccer Club.
Heard Natural Science Museum
The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary is one of my favorite spots to unwind and one of my favorite things to do in Collin County with the whole family. Tucked away on 289 acres of beautiful trails and landscapes, the Heard has been around since 1967. It’s a mix of a museum and a sanctuary, which makes it feel like a little slice of Texas wilderness right in our backyard.
The Heard offers guided hikes that educate hikers about the local ecology, geology, and wildlife. These 45-60-minute treks are the perfect way to learn about the area’s flora and fauna while soaking up some fresh air.
Plus, they host all kinds of fun events, from holiday festivities to educational camps and even homeschool programs.
Arbor Hills Nature Preserve
Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is another great spot when you just need a quick escape into nature. Carved into the Western edge of Plano, this 200-acre park is perfect for walking, jogging, hiking, or even trying out some orienteering. The natural beauty here is incredible, with trails winding through open fields and wooded areas.
One of my favorite features is the observation tower—it offers a stunning view of the city and feels like the perfect blend of nature and urban life. Plus, the park has a cool natural biofilter that cleans parking lot runoff before it returns to the groundwater.
Heritage Farmstead Museum
The Heritage Farmstead Museum is a step back in Texas history. Spanning four acres, it features 15 historic buildings, including the beautifully preserved 1891 Wilson House and the Young House. I love strolling the grounds and exploring the informational signs and QR codes—they make the experience so interactive and engaging.
The museum’s collection of over 10,000 artifacts is incredible, showcasing everything from home furnishings to tools and textiles from the Blackland Prairie days. It’s a must-visit for anyone curious about North Texas’ farming heritage!
In-Sync Exotics
Animals and their well-being are always at the forefront of everyone’s mind. With this, consider visiting In-Sync Exotics, located in Wylie.
As a non-profit organization they are dedicated to the rescue of neglected, abused and unwanted exotic felines. So many people envision animal sanctuaries as negative places for animals.
Not at In-Sync Exotics. Their animals are treated wonderfully and beautifully by the staff. The entire location is extremely family-friendly and based strictly on education and care.
No matter what you decide to do in Collin County, make sure it is fun. Visit some places that are exciting or some places that really get you up and motivated and excited!
